Nelson Nurse
was born in Durban, South Africa in 1941. He has painted professionally
since he was 18, and paints under his first name 'Nelson'.
 |
Nelson
together with his wife Shaneen and three children have travelled
to London, America, Asia, Africa and South Africa selling
and exhibiting his paintings, wherever there is space for
him, and enjoys being a street artist where he can take his
art to the people, demonstrating and teaching at the same
time. That way everyone can enjoy and experience his art,
without having to particularly go to an art gallery.
|
 |
He
is self-taught, with strong spiritual influences. His inspiration
comes from his travels here and abroad, the indigenous people of
Africa and Australia have also influenced his work.

|
Since
immigrating to Perth, Australia in 1985, Nelson and Shaneen
have established an art business NELSON THE ARTIST.
One of Nelson's many art studios was an old beach house
accross the road from coogee beach in Perth. Those of you
driving along Cockburn Rd, Coogee would have seen his paintings
on the front lawn.
His
studio/gallery/workshop is now the open road, and they have
travelled particularly around Western Australia, experiencing
the unique qualities of the outback the rugged beauty of
the landscapes, seascapes and desert.
|
He emphasizes how beautiful Western Australia is, and says “it truly is an amazing place, I see so
many shapes and forms, hidden and mysterious things in the
landscapes, you can’t beat that for real life art, there
is always something that God teaches me through the land and
nature.”
|
|
|
This way, I present art in a totally different way, which
is relaxed, without having the constraints of an art gallery.
“I do everything myself, from the framing to the painting
to the finished work. My wife plays guitar and piano, so it’s
a great combination. Moving around definitely helps me stay
focused, motivated, and gain new perspectives”
